The Maine Spinners’ Registry was originally formed in 1989 by a small group of dedicated spinners. At that time, names and addresses of spinners in the state were collected and a small newsletter was written. Now we write a quarterly newsletter, one of which is a comprehensive directory of members and fiber-related vendors, fiber sources, instruction, and other items of interest. The goal of the organization was, and remains so to this day, to promote, educate, and be a networking system for spinners throughout the state of Maine. We have continued to use our original slogan, ”Join the Registry! Feel the Connection.” Since the beginning, we have grown to over 200 members, including a number from across the country and Canada. |

To meet our goals we sponsor spin-ins within the state. Host Spinning Weekends at Sugarloaf/USA each summer, and travel to regions of the state giving outreach programs to spinners. |

| ATTENTION Knitters and Crocheters One of our members' husband is being treated for cancer at Dana Farber. They have discovered there are virtually no hats for male cancer patience, the baskets are overflowing with mostly pinks and pastels. We encourage MSR members and anyone else interested to knit hats in more unisex shades to support any cancer patient in need. One cancer survivor, said the "chemo caps" set her on her fiber journey! She suggests that the hat be made long enough to reach the back of the neck and of very soft yarn. She She said the skin recently vacated of hair is very tender and cold. Someone from the MSR will be at the Newport, Waldoboro spin-ins and the Annual Meeting to collect your hats. Thank you! |
